About Zhijin Karst National Geopark

Located in Zhijin County, Guizhou Province, Zhijin Karst National Geopark encompasses one of the largest karst cave systems in Asia, formed over millions of years through water erosion of limestone bedrock. The park's centerpiece is the Zhijin Cave, a massive underground labyrinth stretching over 13 kilometers, showcasing a dazzling array of stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, curtains, and underground waterfalls. The geopark also features diverse surface karst landforms such as tower karsts, sinkholes, and underground rivers, offering a stunning natural spectacle. Ecologically, the area supports subtropical forest ecosystems with rich biodiversity including rare plants and animals adapted to the karst terrain. Historically, the site has been a cultural crossroads for local ethnic groups, notably the Miao and Bouyei peoples, whose traditional villages and customs add cultural depth to the natural landscape. Visitors can explore the caves by guided tours, hike scenic trails aboveground to panoramic viewpoints, and engage in photography, geology study, and wildlife observation. Seasonal flower blooms and misty mountain vistas enhance the scenic appeal. With excellent visitor infrastructure including well-maintained paths, illuminated cave routes, and educational exhibits, Zhijin Karst offers an immersive and accessible experience for outdoor enthusiasts and geology fans.
